About Somaliland Bar Association (SOBA)
The Somaliland Bar Association (SOBA) is the national professional body for advocates and legal practitioners in Somaliland. It succeeds the Somaliland Lawyers’ Association (SOLLA), which was originally established under Act No. 30/2013 to organize, regulate, and advance the legal profession in the country.
After years of growth and institutional development, the final General Assembly of SOLLA, held on 7 July 2025, approved key amendments to modernize the organization and strengthen its mandate. As a result of these reforms, SOLLA was reconstituted and renamed the Somaliland Bar Association (SOBA), reflecting its expanded regulatory and representative role within the justice sector.
SOBA is committed to upholding the rule of law, safeguarding the independence of the legal profession, and promoting high ethical and professional standards among its members. The association supports continuous legal education, advocates for equitable access to justice, and works closely with courts, government institutions, and civil society to strengthen the legal framework in Somaliland.
Building on the legacy of SOLLA, the Somaliland Bar Association continues to serve as a unified voice for lawyers, protecting their professional rights while ensuring that legal services are delivered with integrity, competence, and full respect for human rights.
